Back in 1977, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Choir Toonkunst's conductor at the time, Jan Eelkema, established, jointly with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Toonkunst Chamber Choir. The Chamber Choir fully cooperates with and fully supports the Grand Choir and displays, next to this, its own range of activities as far as programming and productions are concerned. At present, the Choir counts some 25 singers, all of whom are members of the Grand Choir as well.
The Chamber Choir's productions include concerts with such professional orchestras as the 'Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra', the 'Limburg Symphony Orchestra', the 'The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra' ('Residentie Orkest'), the 'Amsterdam Bach Soloists' and the baroque orchestra 'Concerto '91' ('Concerto d'Amsterdam').

The Chamber Choir has given guest performances at the International Music Festival in Stord (Norway), and in several other European countries. It has participated in the Festival of Flanders (Belgium) and in radio and television broadcasts such as the premiere in the Netherlands, on 26 December 1999, of Frank Martin's Cantate pour le temps de Noël.
In recent years, the Chamber Choir significantly expanded its activities. It performed, in premieres in the Netherlands, compositions by Luciano Berio, Frank Martin and by Telemann, as well as, with a few soloists of the Choir, 15th century music by Ciconia and Dufay. It gave concerts in 'De Doelen' (Rotterdam) and in the 'Amsterdam Concertgebouw', but also in the 'Amsterdam ArenA' with the project 'Sensation White', where, during a full night of dancing with some 10.000 attending youths, Ton de Leeuw's Prière, composition on a French Koran text, was sung.
On 26 October 2002, Rotterdam Toonkunst Chamber Choir gave its 25th anniversery concert: a performance of Monteverdi's Maria Vespers with the orchestra 'In Stil Moderne' that accompanied the Choir on authentic instruments. In April 2003 J. S. Bach's St. John Passion and with Christmas 2004 J. S. Bach's Hohe Messe, were performed in the Old Church of Delft. In 2009, the Choir participated in the day-long concert dedicated to the works of the De Lange Brothers, Rotterdam composers.
Since 01 July 2008, Maria van Nieukerken is the Choir's conductor and artistic leader.
