Who are we?

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Choir Toonkunst (Dutch: Philharmonisch Koor Toonkunst Rotterdam; in the following: 'Rotterdam Toonkunst', for short), resides in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The Choir studies the major choral masterpieces of musical history and has the ambition to perform these in public at the highest attainable level. Its repertoire encompasses a period in time that reaches from the early Renaissance to the present. The some 100 singers compose the 'Grand' (Oratorium) Choir, part of them also participate in the Chamber Choir Toonkunst. Conductor and artistic director of both choirs is Maria van Nieukerken.

Weekly, the rehearsals take place in an enjoyable atmosphere, but the ultimate satisfaction is: the subsequent performance in public to demonstrate what has been achieved. Rotterdam Toonkunst regularly gives concerts with first-class orchestras and soloists. The concerts can count on a dedicated audience.

The Choir also relies on the generosity of its Donators, whom are offered the privilege of being timely informed about the programming, while being eligible to reduced admission fees to the concerts.

Next to performing the common repertoire of a concert choir (oratoria, requia, masses, symphonies for choir and orchestra, and the like), Rotterdam Toonkunst participates in a number of special projects, such as 'Classical Spectacular', performances during the Rotterdam Gergiev Festival, 'White Sensation' (with Pavarotti as soloist) in the Amsterdam ArenA, and the Rotterdam 'Day of Romantic Music'.

Membership of the Choir proves to be stimulating and enjoyable. Singers from abroad (young and old) are welcome to join during their stay in Rotterdam (or surroundings).
