About us

Philharmonisch Koor Toonkunst Rotterdam is an established choral society with a mixed choir of about a hundred accomplished singers. It has an excellent chamber choir and its members are able to perform a varying repertoire from classical oratorios to contemporary chamber works. Toonkunst gives five concerts per year on average in Rotterdam and beyond. Maria van Nieukerken conducts both the main choir and the chamber choir.

Singing with Toonkunst Rotterdam

The choir can place enthusiastic singers of all ages from students to retired people. Several times a year there is an opportunity to take part in an introductory rehearsal where prospective choir members can then come and sing with us, and make an appointment for an audition if they wish. See the right-hand column for details.

Toonkunst Rotterdam rehearses on Thursday evenings in the Prinsekerk in Rotterdam. Independent preparation for each weekly rehearsal is required. We have time for social contact – an important aspect of our society – during the break and especially after rehearsals. In advance of each concert we hold a full-day workshop and once a year we get together at a stimulating venue for a study weekend.

Rehearsals are each Thursday in the Prinsekerk, Schepenstraat 71, 3039 NL Rotterdam, from 20:00 to 22:15 h. If you want to join us, please visit the next introductory rehearsal on

Working together with Toonkunst Rotterdam

Owing to our substantial repertoire list we are regularly invited to work with professional orchestras. We can quickly refresh works which we last performed some years ago as we have many long-standing members.

Are you looking for a reliable choir who you can work with easily? There’s a good chance that the music you have in mind is already in our repertoire. If not we’d be happy to prepare it. Concert planners can make contact with the committee member responsible at
